This book is a beginner-to-intermediate-level method book designed for anyone looking to start playing snare drum. ‘Foundation’ comes with all the information you need to excel on marching snare drum, including essential rudiments, warm-ups, practical etudes, and access to video tutorials on proper hand technique and how to tune your drum.

A collection of 20 fun, original etudes and gridding concepts for marching snare drum. It puts a practical application on the essential rudiments for snare drum, from intermediate to advanced "chop-building." Each etude is designed around an essential rudiment or musical concept that will build hand control and challenge your skills as a marching percussionist. Before every etude is a mini lesson on how to approach the piece, as well as a recommended song to play to.

About

Amanda is an independent artist, performer, and clinician. She has been playing snare drum for over 10 years. Some of her notable past performances have been at the 2012 Bands of America Regionals (Georgia), the 2014 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (New York, NY), the 2015 Bands of America National Championships (Indianapolis, IN), the 2019 Miss Florida Pageant, and the 2019 Percussive Arts Society International Convention (Indianapolis, IN). She performed at PASIC 2019 as a Marching Percussion champion international “Hit Like A Girl” competition, which she won in 2018. She was also a musical actor/performer at Universal Studios (Orlando, FL) from 2015 through 2016.

She has been a guest clinician for Fort McCoy Middle School (Ocala, FL), Swansboro High School (Onslow, NC), University High School (Orlando, FL), Tuscola High School (Waynesville, NC), Walton High School (Marietta, GA), Belleview High School (Ocala, FL), Leander High School (Leadner, TX), Ames High School (Ames, IA), and Western Carolina University's 2018 and 2019 Summer Symposiums (Cullowhee, NC). She was the international judge/clinician at the 2017 Costa Rica Marching Arts fest, as well as the 2018 8th Hong Kong National Percussion and Marching Band Competition. She was the head instructor of Western Carolina University's Purple Drumline from 2018 through 2019.

She haswritten for two corporate entertainment drumlines, four of WCU's Purple Drumline shows, and two self-published instructional books, entitled Rhythmic Muse (2019) and Foundation (2020).

Amanda is recognized throughout the social media community as a result of the snare drum compositions and videos that she produces on her social handles. She has been featured in collaborations with BYOS, AJ Drumz, The Grid Book Series, Old Bridge Elementary Drumline, Casey Cooper, and was a winner in Vic Firth’s 2017 global Rodger Carter SRC JAM video. She has also been featured in articles by WCU’s marketing department and CollegeMarching.com, for being an inspiration in overcoming stereotypes and shattering glass ceilings. Amanda graduated with her bachelor’s degree from Western Carolina University and her master’s degree from New York University. She is signed as an artist with Vic Firth, Beetle Percussion, and Pearl Drums.
